In the heart of the Lombardy capital and just a stone’s throw from the Duomo and the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping centre, the Room Mate Giulia Hotel has recently been erected, a designer and prestigious structure that embodies all of the elements that characterise traditional Milanese architecture and the innate tie that this city has with the world of design. A perfect balance of vintage and modern elements, the project was completed in 2016 by Spanish architect Patricia Urquiola, who worked alongside Frederik Dewachter and Alberto Artesani to form a precious collaboration. The objective of the project was to put forth a new type of designer hotel, where the guests felt a sense of domestic familiarity from the moment they entered the hall. This is a one-of-a-kind hotel despite the fact that this building in Milan is part of an emerging Spanish hotel chain, which however aims to differentiate each structure, rendering them all unique and unmistakable. 85 rooms and 4 distinct categories: each room in this hotel is different to the next, no two are the same by virtue of a specific stylistic choice on behalf of the designer, i.e. to tell Milan’s story from a more unusual perspective, moving away from the stereotypes and clichés and instead exalting all the beautiful and special aspects established by art over the years. It therefore comes as no surprise that all the structural elements are works of designer Meneghini. Patricia Urquiola chose Ceramica Vogue tiles from the Trasparenze collection with a glossy finish, measuring 10x10 cm to tile all the bathrooms of the rooms and suites in this Milanese hotel. The designer chose personalised solid coloured tiles in the TR Ghiaccio and TR Cipria variants. Ceramica Vogue tiles were chosen for the bathrooms owing to the elegance of the product and its outstanding versatility, interpreted in an entirely personal manner to further enhance the character and style. In fact, Patricia Urquiola made the decision to use these tiles with contrasting coloured grout: a choice that, in addition to creating an aesthetic impact, emphasised the glossy and shiny finish of the ceramic tiles from the Trasparenze collection, which bestow luminosity and create light effects depending on how they are illuminated. Style, elegance and sophistication but also absolute modernity for these beautifully made glazed stoneware tiles, capable of enhancing and rendering each and every room truly unique.
